Check out how one of Budapest’s oldest parks will be revamped! – PHOTOS
A few months ago we have reported that the Budapest Municipality was planning the revamp and reconstruction of one of the capital’s oldest parks on the Buda side.
Balázs Fürjes the Secretary of State for the Development of Budapest and its Agglomeration posted on their Facebook profile back in August that they were expecting architectural studios to send in their designs.
Since then, the tenders and designs were anonymously evaluated by a jury consisting of such big names from the Hungarian professional scene of landscape architecture as Zoltán Erő, the Chief architect of Budapest and Sándor Bardóczi, the Chief landscape architect of Budapest.
Recently, Építészfórum has reported that the winner of the tender was OpenSpace Kft. with its outstanding and modern designs and ideas.
The head of the jury Balázs Fürjes posted the impressive concepts on his official Facebook page. Have a look:
What changes to expect?
“Városmajor was the first public garden in Buda, thus it has a major historical heritage. Many Buda-based citizens and families have strong ties to this place which is part of their everyday life– yet, today [in its current form] it is not worthy of this important position” – Balázs Fürjes said when he launched the tender.
According to Építészfórum, and the Secretary of State for the Development of Budapest and its Agglomeration, the main aim of this tender was to renew one of Budapest’s oldest parks by finally giving it a modern makeover.
The criteria of the tender included the enlargement of overall green areas, the renovation of the public areas, the elimination of traffic, the protection and renovation of existing green areas, the creation of a Stillwater to improve its ecological footprint and the improvement of the entry points and borders of the park.
Protecting the old trees and other natural treasures as well as the original architecture was an important focus for the designers.
“The renewed Városmajor will be a family-friendly park with green clearings, an open field for sunbathing, a large lake in the middle as well as playgrounds and community sports fields. Thanks to the new park entrances, people will no longer need to go around the park to enter; and it will be more easily accessible by bicycle, on foot and with baby strollers,” – Balázs Fürjes said on his social media.
Locals will also be involved in the planning process of future upgrades via community planning, forums and professional workshops, Építészfórum wrote.
